Leadership and Management
Introduction
Are the leadership and
management is same? Or are there any differences? This research helps to identify similarities
and differences about leadership and management.
Both leadership and
management are help to an organization reach set targets and goals. Combination
of balance leadership and management helps to run a company or an organization
effectively and efficiently rather than having one is weaker or strong than to
the other. (Kotter, 2001,
pp. 3-4).
Leadership and management
are involved with people and both influence people to reach goals, objectives.
Leadership
Leadership is a process,
its involving influencing group of people to achieve common goal (Northhouse, 2016)
According to Northhouse (2016), can not
come up with a common definition for leadership since generation changers and
differences, international influences will continue to have difference meaning
of leadership.
Leadership involves motivation and inspiring people or subordinate to drive for common
objective. Interaction between leader and subordinate will effect to archive set
task.
Management
Management is using human
skills, conceptual and technical skills to perform management functions, such
as Planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Management is hierarchical
level and commonly they works in different department different level of
authority and responsibility to achieving high performance (Daft, 2010)
Management function and
responsibilities defers base on their hierarchical level
Top Management –
(Chairman/President, Chief Executive Officer)
Top managers are
responsible for setting strategic plan to reach organization objectives and
providing required environment to perform well. Mostly top managers’ look
long-term future and look for overall success of the company/organization
Middle Management – (Head of Sales,
Head of HR, Head of Finance)
Middle managers a
responsible to implement top management strategies defined by the top
management. Their general concern with near future rather than with long-term
Front Line Management – (Territory Manager,
Unit Manager, Branch manager)
Front line managers are
directly responsible with production or with performance. Their main concerns
are application of organizational rules and procedure, providing necessary
technical support, motivate subordinate for effective results. They concern
about short term planning and strategies.

Conclusion
Above research indicates
both leaders and Managers drive or influence people/subordinate to reach
organizational objectives effectively and efficiently. Combination of good
leadership and good management leads best performance.
